Physical education plays an integral part in the development of healthy bodies and healthy minds. In order to give our pupils the healthiest start, we allocate three hours curriculum time per week to Physical Education for all pupils.
Additional to this we aim to provide all pupils with the opportunity to further develop their skills in a variety of activities and sports through extra-curricular provision, with an aim of providing all pupils the opportunity to take part in 5 hours of physical activity a week. Clubs run during lunch time and after school, led by our own Physical Education staff, our year 8 sports leaders and outside agencies such as the local Badminton club, Martial Arts experts, Basketball coaches, Yoga and Pilate’s teacher through to a Cheerleader working with our girls dance group and a street dancer working with our Key Stage Three boys.
Regular competitive fixtures and competitions are scheduled throughout the year with all pupils assigned to one of our four ‘Houses’ and all taking part in ‘Interhouse’ competitions during the school day. We also compete, very successfully, against local schools in Windsor, Maidenhead, Slough and East Berkshire in all sports that we cover in our Curriculum Lessons.
Curriculum lessons are taught in one hour blocks by specialist Physical Education teachers; the Key Stage Two classes are taught mixed ability and the Key Stage Three classes split with boys and girls taught separately. During lessons all pupils have the opportunity to use the large Gym area (with purpose built changing and shower rooms), our hard court areas and large playing fields. Activities taught range from Football and Netball, through to Tennis, Orienteering, Athletics and Gymnastics. We cover such a large variety of sports and activities in order to provide each and every child with the chance to find their sport of choice and expertise, thus opening a door to a future of Physical activity.
