Measurements and Instruments

Year 7 pupils use various instruments to take measurements in everyday life.

Your EDiT task is to investigate scientific discoveries and inventions that affect our everyday lives without us even thinking about it.

You will need to research an instrument that is used to take measurements. Look at the science behind how it works, who invented it, how was it invented and the effect it has had on our lives.

Examples

Weighing scales
Newton meter
Hour glass
Chronometer
Sun dial
Water clock
Telescope
Thermometer

Or any other you may wish to investigate

Now that you have investigated a measuring instrument, you are to present your findings in a creative way.

Presentation

Use the information you have found to present in

  • A Powerpoint/ICT based way
  • A leaflet/poster
  • A documentary written and/or filmed
  • A model made or artwork
  • Any other creative way

When you hand in your EDiT task, you need to include sketches/notes of your ideas – these could be collated in a scrapbook or shown on a poster, or even presented on a PowerPoint!

Please hand the completed project into Miss Laine by Friday 16th March
